Welcome to Gunasheela – where hope meets achievement and patient care goes beyond treatment to offer a truly compassionate experience. For 50 years, our journey, founded by Dr. Gunasheela and Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela, has been driven by a passion for reproductive medicine and a commitment to helping families achieve their dream of parenthood.
From a small clinic to a nationally recognized fertility hospital, Gunasheela has become a trusted name in fertility care. Our legacy is built on innovation, ethics, expertise, transparency and empathy, combining advanced science with heartfelt compassion to create life-changing outcomes.
Gunasheela Surgical and maternity hospital was established in the year 1975 by Dr Sulochana Gunasheela and Dr Mavahalli Gunasheela with the sole aim of providing state of the art facilities for patients seeking services in obstetrics and gynaecology. It was one of its kind in south of Bangalore.
When the World’s first IVF baby Louis Brown was born in 1978, Dr Sulochana Gunasheela decided that it was time to bring this technology to her hometown in India. The first ART baby in South India was created in Gunasheela hospital in 1988. She along with Dr Mavahalli Gunasheela managed to build a state of the art unit for infertility, high risk obstetrics and gynecology.
She was the first to introduce Laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and ultrasound in the state of Karnataka. She also started the concept of Laparoscopic sterilization camps in Karnataka and trained the doctors in government hospitals to do laparoscopic sterilization in Karnataka. She has many firsts to her name.
The Gunasheela legacy was then taken forward by her younger daughter Dr Devika Gunasheela and her husband Dr Rajsekhar Nayak who are great visionaries. Together, they have taken forward the foundation laid by Dr Sulochana Gunasheela to build a stand alone centre of excellence in the field of infertility, high risk obstetrics and gynecology.
Gunasheela has to its credit, the first IVM baby in India in March 2004, and the largest data set of IVM patients, which is approximately about 700 patients having gone through the IVM program. Gunasheela started a fertility preservation program for cancer affected patients in 2011- first of its kind in the country.
We sphere headed the introduction of genetics into ART by starting our own genetics lab fully dedicated to infertility in our state of Karnataka, and have an active molecular genetic program where we offer PGT-A, PGT-M & PGT-SR, and a cytogenetics department as well.
