A Legacy of Compassionate Fertility Care

Dear Esteemed Colleagues and Delegates,

Welcome to Gunasheela – where hope meets achievement and patient care goes beyond treatment to offer a truly compassionate experience. For 50 years, our journey, founded by Dr. Gunasheela and Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela, has been driven by a passion for reproductive medicine and a commitment to helping families achieve their dream of parenthood.

From a small clinic to a nationally recognized fertility hospital, Gunasheela has become a trusted name in fertility care. Our legacy is built on innovation, ethics, expertise, transparency and empathy, combining advanced science with heartfelt compassion to create life-changing outcomes.

Dear Colleagues

I am Dr. Gunasheela, and I’m delighted to share that we will be hosting a landmark Conference on Reproductive Medicine at Bangalore from September 12th to 14th, 2025.

This conference will comprehensively cover the entire spectrum of reproductive medicine, with a special focus on recurrent pregnancy loss. It promises to be an enriching platform for knowledge exchange, discussion of groundbreaking advancements, and collaborative learning.

We are honored to welcome a distinguished line up of Doyens of Infertility from across the globe — renowned leaders, researchers, and clinicians who have made groundbreaking contributions to the field.

This is a golden opportunity to enrich your knowledge, not just by listening to their insights but also through direct interactions and networking with these international & national experts.

When I was recently speaking with one of our esteemed international faculty members, he expressed surprise that Gunasheela, a single, standalone hospital, was organizing a conference of this magnitude.

His question was simple: "Why?"

And the answer is deeply meaningful to us.

Yes, Gunasheela is not a chain—we are a single, independent institution. But we are at the forefront when it comes to advanced technology, clinical expertise, innovation, transparency, and ethics.

That alone is reason enough to share what we know and bring the global reproductive medicine community together.

The second reason is one of pride and gratitude. For a hospital of our size to have completed 50 years of dedicated service is a remarkable milestone—a testament to the unwavering commitment of our doctors, embryologists, nurses, staff, and every individual who makes Gunasheela what it is.

They deserve to be celebrated.

The third reason goes back to our roots. In 1988, Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela achieved South India’s first ART pregnancy—a monumental feat in an era when access to scientific resources was limited.

There was no internet, no digital libraries, no global webinars, and journals from the West were difficult and expensive to obtain. All she had were the resources available at Bangalore Medical College and St. John’s Library, her unshakable drive, and her vision.

Dr. Gunasheela visited pioneering centers around the world, gathered knowledge, and built her own resource library. When she returned and achieved that historic first pregnancy Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), doctors from all over the country came to learn from her.

And in her characteristic spirit of generosity, she opened her lab, her hospital, and her heart to anyone eager to learn and build infertility centers of their own.

Even today, when I attend national and international conferences, I meet doctors who speak of her grace, generosity, and passion for sharing knowledge.

To honor that legacy, and to celebrate the spirit of Gunasheela Institute, we are organizing this landmark conference, welcoming a host of global luminaries in reproductive medicine and doyens in the field of infertility in the national circuit.

It is our way of continuing the mission of disseminating knowledge—something we believe in deeply and do with great pride.

We hope you will join us in large numbers, not only to learn from the best, but also to become part of this living tribute to a journey of vision, service, and learning.

Your presence will truly add value, looking forward to welcoming you in September.

With warm regards,
Dr. Gunasheela
Chairperson, Gunasheela Institute

About Hospital

Gunasheela Surgical and maternity hospital was established in the year 1975 by Dr Sulochana Gunasheela and Dr Mavahalli Gunasheela with the sole aim of providing state of the art facilities for patients seeking services in obstetrics and gynaecology. It was one of its kind in south of Bangalore.

When the World’s first IVF baby Louis Brown was born in 1978, Dr Sulochana Gunasheela decided that it was time to bring this technology to her hometown in India. The first ART baby in South India was created in Gunasheela hospital in 1988. She along with Dr Mavahalli Gunasheela managed to build a state of the art unit for infertility, high risk obstetrics and gynecology.

She was the first to introduce Laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and ultrasound in the state of Karnataka. She also started the concept of Laparoscopic sterilization camps in Karnataka and trained the doctors in government hospitals to do laparoscopic sterilization in Karnataka. She has many firsts to her name.

The Gunasheela legacy was then taken forward by her younger daughter Dr Devika Gunasheela and her husband Dr Rajsekhar Nayak who are great visionaries. Together, they have taken forward the foundation laid by Dr Sulochana Gunasheela to build a stand alone centre of excellence in the field of infertility, high risk obstetrics and gynecology.
